God and Charles Dickens

God and Charles Dickens: Recovering the Christian Voice of a Classic Author by Gary L. Colledge is an absolute delight to read. Colledge is an adjunct professor at Moody Bible Institute and Walsh University. he’s also written a book called Dickens, Christianity, and “The Life of Our Lord.”

God and Charles Dickens is a spiritual biography of the man and his work.

Christmas is nearly upon us, and one of my favourite stories of all time is A Christmas Carol. it’s been adapted and retold numerous times. Colledge reflects on this, and other works by Dickens, and creates an even greater appreciation for Dickens writings.

God and Charles Dickens is a great book for lovers of literature and loves of theology. the two themes, literature and theology, are intertwined wonderfully by Colledge and the result is a great, great book.

“Chalres Dickens was not a theologian,” writes Colledge. “But he was interested in things theological. He was not a Bible scholar. But he knew his Bible…” (pg. 55).

i enjoyed God and Charles Dickens very much. i highly recommend it. it’s extremely well written and well researched. there are lengthy notes and a “Selected Bibliography” for further study on the subject.
